The Filmfestival Max Ophüls Prize is an annual film festival in Saarbrücken for young filmmakers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Among experts, it is regarded as one of the most important forums for German-speaking young talents. In 1980, Albrecht Stuby founded the Max Ophüls Filmfestival. The festival started with 700 spectators. Nowadays the audience and the number of films submitted have grown steadily – in 2016 the festival counted 43,000 visitors.
